Week 1: Medieval Town
This week, I created and put together a medieval town in unreal. Using minimal pieces and breakout meshes, I created a number of unique houses to set in a small sized village. After creating the houses, I used Unreal's foliage paint tool to lay grass, rocks, and props into the scene.
Week 2: Outside Lighting
This week, I was given a scene (specifically an Egyptian scene) to light for two scenarios: Sunrise and Night. Using Unreal's lighting systems, as well as the HDRI plugin, I was able to create the basic lighting for these scenes. Going further, I used a height fog and volumetric clouds to further push the effect, creating light rays and shafts with these tools. To tie everything up, I used a post process volume to control color grading and rendering.
Week 3: Procedural Landscape Project
This week, I learned how to create procedural landscape using Unreal's Landscape tools. Using a noise filter and the landmass tool, I created the basic shapes for the landscape. Using weight painting and various materials, I differentiated different parts of the landscape. After making the landscape, I used the foliage tool to dress the scene with various plants and props.
Week 4: Fire FX Project
This week, I put together a fire, smoke, and ember effect with Niagra in Unreal Engine. Starting at a blank slate, I created a fire effect complete with smoke and embers using various emitters and settings within those emitters. After creating the fire, I dressed the scene with various plants and props to make an outdoor camping scene in the woods.
